The Honest Numbers

Monster 896+ — exactly what it costs to buy and live with, in Alberta. The math we promised, nothing hidden.
You asked for the real five-year cost. Here it is — purchase, financing, and every service the book actually calls for. We didn't round anything in our favour.

1 · What it costs to ride away

Monster 896+ (Ducati Red) MSRP$15,695
Freight & PDI$995
Alberta GST (5%) — no PST$834.50
Out the door*$17,524.50
*Before licensing & registration (Alberta plate/registration is separate and minor). Iceberg White / Sport Livery cost a little more — ask us for the exact figure on the colour you want.

2 · Financing (current June program)

Rate1.99% APR
Term36 months
Amount financed ($16,690, before tax)~$478/mo
Total interest over the term~$518
A real rate, honestly: 1.99% over 36 months is about $518 in interest across three years. Want a lower monthly? Longer terms are available at slightly higher rates — ask us. 0–25% down depending on credit. On approved credit through Ducati Financial Services; not everyone qualifies for the advertised rate.

3 · Five years of service (the part everyone gets wrong)

Alberta's season is about 6,000 km a year, so five years is roughly 30,000 km. Here's every service Ducati's book calls for in that window:

Oil & filter service (every 15,000 km / 2 yrs)2 services
Valve clearance check (every 45,000 km)0 services
Your first valve service doesn't happen until past year 7. The expensive Ducati service everyone warns you about? You won't see it in five seasons of riding.
Oil services — est. 2 × ~$300~$600
Valve service in 5 yrs$0
Tires — the real recurring cost, est. 2 sets × ~$600~$1,200
5-yr upkeep (ex. fuel & insurance)~$1,800
Service-labour and tire figures are typical Alberta dealer estimates and depend on how you ride — your exact quote from us may differ. The intervals themselves are Ducati's official numbers, not ours.
~$30/month
What it costs to keep the Monster on the road (upkeep only, ex. fuel & insurance) — averaged over five years.

4 · What we won't pretend to know

Insurance. It swings hard by age, history, and city — anyone who quotes you a single number for it is guessing. Get a real quote from your broker; happy to point you to riders who've done it.

Fuel. ~5.2 L/100km. At Calgary pump prices and 6,000 km/year, call it a couple of tanks a month in summer.
