You asked for the real cost. Here's the part that surprises people most: the bike is exotic, the running costs aren't. Purchase, financing, and every service the book calls for — nothing rounded in our favour.
1 · What it costs to ride away
Panigale V2 S 896 (Ducati Red) MSRP$22,595
Freight & PDI$995
Alberta GST (5%) — no PST$1,179.50
Out the door*$24,769.50
*Before licensing & registration. Yellow livery is a little more — ask us for the exact figure on the colour you want.
2 · Financing (current June program)
Rate1.99% APR
Term36 months
Amount financed ($23,590, before tax)~$676/mo
Total interest over the term~$735
Longer terms available at slightly higher rates for a lower monthly — ask us. 0–25% down depending on credit. On approved credit through Ducati Financial Services; not everyone qualifies for the advertised rate.
3 · Five years of service (the surprise)
Alberta's season is ~6,000 km a year, so five years is roughly 30,000 km. Here's every service the book calls for:
Oil & filter service (every 15,000 km / 2 yrs)2 services
Valve clearance check (every 45,000 km)0 services
The V2's engine uses Intake Variable Timing, not Desmo — so the first valve service is past year 7. An exotic-looking Panigale with the running costs of a sensible naked.
Oil services — est. 2 × ~$300~$600
Valve service in 5 yrs$0
Tires — the real recurring cost, est. ~$1,600~$1,600
5-yr upkeep (ex. fuel & insurance)~$2,200
Sport tires wear faster than a naked's, especially if you see the track — that's where most of your upkeep goes, not the engine. Labour and tire figures are typical Alberta dealer estimates and depend on how you ride; the intervals are Ducati's official numbers.
~$37/month
What it costs to keep the V2 S on the road (upkeep only, ex. fuel & insurance), averaged over five years.
4 · What we won't pretend to know
Insurance. A sportbike costs more to insure than a naked, and it swings hard by age, history, and city. Anyone quoting you a single number is guessing — get a real quote from your broker.
Fuel. Real-world ~6 L/100km. At Calgary prices and 6,000 km/year, a couple of tanks a month in summer.
