Every motocross bike uses springs. The Ducati doesn't. It's called Desmodromic timing. Every other bike on the gate uses springs to close its valves, the Desmo450 closes them mechanically, the same system Ducati has raced for seven decades. Springs can float at high rpm and lose control of the valve; Desmo doesn't, so the engine keeps breathing clean right at the top of the range where a 450 actually lives. Other systems estimate wheel spin from engine data; this one reads the real slip of the rear wheel from sensors, then acts only when it needs to.
