Why Ducati took the Desmo out of the 2026 Monster.
For seventy years, every Monster ran Desmodromic valves. The 896 runs spring valves instead, and the purists are loud about it. Here's the part they skip.
Even the reviewers admit it: ride the spring engine and a Desmo back to back, and you can't tell which is which. Desmo was always more about knowing you had it than feeling it. What you do feel is unchanged, the L-twin heartbeat, and 175 kg that make it the lightest Monster ever.
So what do you actually lose? Nothing you'd feel. Just the badge that says Desmo. For some riders that's the whole point, and the Desmo 937 is still on our floor, your call.
The badge was never the point. The way it makes you ride still is.
Monster 896+. 111 hp. 175 kg. From $15,695 CAD, from 1.99% APR over 36 months. Alberta: 5% GST only. More riding, fewer shop visits, valve service now every 45,000 km.
Comment NUMBERS and we'll send you the honest five-year cost of ownership, service, finance, all of it. Just the math.
